Rogues' Memories - Barbados Island Adventures with Rex.
Rex Wotton ran the West Coast Watersports shop at Coral Reef hotel, just up the beach from Settlers Beach. The center took hotel guest diving and on sailing tours around the coast. He was a professional seafarer trained by the Royal Merchant Navy in navigation, and marine work.
Rex was just one of the most loveable Rogues of Barbados. He had an amazing sense of fun and used it to win over every situation.
In his early years, he would set off on his own to commune with nature: Taking off with merely the bare essentials, shorts, shirt, footwear, knife, a Wide rim hat, and little else, he lived off the land: He sheltered among trees, caves, and rocks, which he covered with bush and debris, making a roof with palms and banana leaves. Banana leaves have many uses. Wound around food, they serve as a container for cooking over a fire. They create an excellent surface to serve up a meal, and can be used as a shade and a cover on which to lie down.
