Late in 2024 a fast 72-hour vacation to Madrid with good friends was the ideal reason to delve into the city's rich heritage. Our hotel, positioned in the heart of the city on Cal base to find Madrid's renowned landmarks and savour its gastronomic delights. As we roamed through the city's dynamic plazas, we took in the infectious energy and historical significance that surrounded us.

Our group's diverse choices caused various activities. Suzanne and Richard began the firstday one evening with an unforgettable dinner at Bodega de los Secretos, a cozy, centuries-old restaurant loaded with appeal. On day 2 my better half and I signed up with a tapas and red wine walking tour led by the enthusiastic Mario. We visited a number of local hotspots. I was intrigued by the Meson de Champinon, a bar and restaurant which serverd mushrooms and only mushrooms.

Day 3 was everything about cooking, with Pamela and Bill arranging a paella masterclass at the glamorous Ritz Mandarin Oriental. Chef Oliver Menendez assisted us through the complexities of making standard Valencian paella and black rice with squid and lobster. The experience was coupled with tastings of local sherries and red wines, making it among the journey's highlights.

We settled the weekend with a visit to Teatro Flamenco Madrid. This intimate venue showcased the raw emotion and charm of flamenco dancing, supplying a perfect cultural capstone.

Throughout the journey, we took pleasure in memorable meals at local dining establishments like Casa Verona and Casa Alberto, where we indulged in genuine Spanish dishes such as anchovies in olive oil, croquettes, and even the well known calamari sandwich. The Mercado de San Miguel was another standout, using a look into Spain's abundant culinary customs.
